Highly collectible cake plate, from Society Ceramics, Maastricht, Holland. It measures 12 in, please see photos, there is crazing due to age. It would be beautiful hung or used for a decor piece, too. There is a small hairline crack on edge, but it does not feel "open" so I wonder if it happened in firing process, see photo 6, you can see the crack has the black paint in it where it ran from edge, see photo 7, where the paint ran just above, too. It really adds to the charm and history of this beautiful piece of pottery.
Maastricht, Holland, was the city where Petrus Regout established the De Sphinx pottery in 1836. De Sphinx operated under the name Petrus Regout & Co. until 1899. The firm was noted for its transfer-printed earthenware. Many factories in Maastricht are still making ceramics.
