T'Ang series (Love Story) copy on inside reads: The design heron has been reproduced from a wall plaques of Chinese lacquer, an art which flourished through the T' Ang period (618-906 AD). China's Golden Age of Art, exerting a far reaching influence over the whole of Asia, and later throughout the world. The figures are of hand carved soap stone inlaid into the thick lacquer ground, and tell of a live story. A nobleman of high position petitioning his "Lady Love" who meets him secretly chaperoned by her hand maiden.
